WHOA-KTD President Jayne A. Hitchcock:WHOA began as a result of two cyberstalking victims who decided to fight back: Lynda Hinkle and me. We'd been cyberstalked in 1996 and thought it was too bad there was no web site that addressed the issue. The next thing I knew, WHOA was born, dedicated to helping adult victims worldwide. I was appointed Media Advisor in February of 1997. Lynda left the organization in June of 1999 and I took over as president. Since then, we have grown and changed. Online harassment and cyberstalking cases have dramatically risen, not only for adults, but for kids and teens, too. In the spring of 2005, I approached Joan Welch, formerly of Safetyed, about expanding WHOA to create a place just for kids, teens, their parents and teachers. She enthusiastically said yes and WHOA-KTD was born. I look forward to seeing WHOA-KTD continue to grow as a place of support for kids and teens who are being bullied, harassed or stalked online. What with our many contacts in law enforcement, the computer and Internet communities, plus states that are passing online harassment laws targeted to keep kids and teens safe, we can now give kids and teens the tools to fight back. I remember what it was like when there was no one for me to contact for support and help. Now there is a place. And it's called WHOA-KTD. |
