Because of the vast variety of software used to create web sites, upload files to servers, etc. we can't
give step-by-step instructions that would be useful to everyone. We have, however, gathered a few pointers
to help you if you're having trouble getting the WHOA graphics on your site and linked to our site.
- You must save the graphic you wish to use from our site to your local hard drive, then get it to
your server. Please do NOT link to it on our site - that uses our bandwidth, it makes your site load more
slowly, and if we restructure our site, you'll find yourself with a broken link. To save the graphic from our
web site to your local hard drive:
- Windows users: right-click on the graphic, and choose "Save Picture As" or "Save Image As"
or whatever command your web browser uses.
- Click-Hold on the image and select "Save This Image As..." from the pop-up menu.
- Pick a directory on your hard drive and either accept the current name of the image or give it one
you prefer - just remember both so you can find the file later.
- Now you need to get the graphic to your web server - wherever the HTML files for your web site live.
If you use a web-page builder provided by your web host, it should give you some way to upload graphic
files. If it isn't obvious, find the help files for the software/interface or ask the web host's support
staff for help.
- If your web host doesn't allow you to upload graphics you can put the files on a web or FTP server
elsewhere and link to them elsewhere. Sign up for a free web site with someone like
Yahoo! Geocities and put the graphic file there, then link to
it on your main web site's forum.
- Insert the HTML code to display the graphic and link to our site into your HTML file. Again, use whatever
software you normally use to edit your web site, whether it's a program like HomeSite, a text editor, or
an interface provided by your web host. We've provided sample code on the banner
page and the page for Safe Site award winners.
- Upload your new HTML file to your web site.
